About

The Fondation Fiminco, established in 2017, is located in Romainville, near Paris, and serves as a cultural hub and residency program designed to support visual artists and curators from around the world. The foundation aims to provide artists with a comprehensive environment conducive to artistic and professional growth. This includes access to a range of technical workshops for various mediums such as engraving, silkscreen, ceramics, digital production, and construction. Fondation Fiminco promotes interdisciplinarity and experimentation, enabling artists to engage deeply with the challenges of the contemporary art scene. The residency is part of a vibrant cultural district and offers tailored capsule residencies lasting from one to nine months, depending on the project needs and collaborative initiatives with partner institutions. The residency includes individual furnished studios, shared living spaces, and exhibition opportunities within the foundation’s facilities. Artists benefit from professional development sessions, including meetings with art world professionals, curators, and collectors, which enhance their visibility and network within the French and international art scenes.

Benefits: to have a studio and a room to sleep 'for free', 45min from Paris. The first two weeks there is a paper in their plotter. Challenges: the 'technical studios' which instead of being available full time as they state in the open call are only once a week, the constant pressure of the residency to be a social worker instead of an artist, and the harassment against any one who complains. Also to be requested to be present when politicians pass by during the residence's publicity moments as if it's a circus (they sell the concept of a cultural neighborhood to other cities), the treatment of artists as 'parasites' who are supposed to 'owe' to the foundation because of their 'generosity'. Costs vs. Gains: wouldn't do it again nor recommend.
