La Escocesa is an artist-led contemporary visual arts organization and residency space located in Barcelona, Spain. Managed collectively by the artists’ association ‘Associació d’Idees EMA’, it focuses on supporting artists and cultural agents by providing workspaces and resources for the development of their projects. The center offers long-term residencies aimed at visual artists and researchers, emphasizing community participation and collective management. Operating in an old textile factory, La Escocesa is recognized for its commitment to feminist and inclusive practices. The organization collaborates with local and international art centers to promote artistic research, experimentation, and sustainable institutional practices. La Escocesa provides over 30 resident artists with studios, technical equipment, and common spaces. Additionally, the center engages in public programming, open calls, and training opportunities to foster artistic development. Through its intersectional and cooperative approach, La Escocesa aims to build a supportive and dynamic community for contemporary visual arts.
